Start with the decision you need to make

Packaging machinery is easiest to compare when the project is broken into decisions rather than model names. A production team may first need to choose a dosing principle, confirm whether a closure can be presented automatically, decide how a label must sit on a curved pack, or work out how several machines will exchange products and stop signals. The guides below are organised around those decisions.

Filling machine selection

Compare volumetric, peristaltic, pump, vacuum, weight and auger approaches against product behaviour, fill range, hygiene and pack handling.

Capping machine selection

Define the closure, neck finish, application method, torque or sealing requirement, presentation route and container support.

Improve the project brief before requesting a quotation

Start with the product and finished pack. Record the normal and difficult operating conditions, every format expected during the project, the required finished-pack output, the available space and utilities, and the machines that must connect. State what will count as acceptable quality: fill result, closure application, label position, seal appearance, code legibility, pack presentation or another measurable outcome. Where precise data is not yet known, identify the uncertainty and arrange a sample review or trial rather than inserting an assumed value.

Which guide should be read first?

Start with the existing packaging machine selection guide when the overall process is not yet defined. Use the process-specific guide when the task—such as filling, capping or labelling—is already clear.

Do the guides replace a machine trial?

No. They help define the information and acceptance criteria for a trial. Product behaviour, component tolerances and real pack handling still need to be verified for the proposed machine and configuration.

Can the same checklist be used for a standalone machine and a full line?

The core product and pack information is shared, but a complete line also needs transfer heights, direction, accumulation, controls, upstream and downstream interfaces, fault recovery and site-layout information.

Why avoid choosing from headline speed alone?

A headline rate may not reflect the actual product, dose, container stability, closure feed, label or film, changeovers and downstream restrictions. Define the required acceptable finished-pack rate under named conditions.

What should be sent with an initial enquiry?

Send product and pack details, all expected formats, required output, available utilities and space, the intended level of automation, photographs or a layout of the existing line, and representative samples where available.
